Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress Issa Rae, the star and co-creator of HBO’s Insecure, has been cast to star in American Princess, a romantic comedy set to air Fox.

The film is about an American woman (Rae) who moves to London, where she’s swept up in a world of wealth and high society and falls in love in an unexpected way. The script was originally written by O’Brien (Neighbors, The House) but is being tweaked by Amy Aniobi, a writer/co-executive producer who has worked with Rae on Insecure.
Jonathan Wu is overseeing the project for Fox.
Rae, long recognized for her brilliance as a writer and producer, is now getting recognized for her acting as well. She was recently nominated for best actress in a comedy series for her work on Insecure, and has received Golden Globe nominations as well.
Rae, also the mastermind behind the hit web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is currently on screen in the acclaimed drama The Hate U Give, starring Amandla Stenberg. Rae wrapped up filming Little, a Universal comedy with black-ish star Marsai Martin, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jean of the Joneses was Meghie’s directorial debut, earning her a first screenplay nomination at the 2017 Independent Spirit Awards. Her most recent film, The Weekend, premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival, and Meghie is developing The Photograph, a family drama, with producer Will Packer at Universal.
