Candace Owens claims she’s never had ‘race issues,’ but apparently has selective amnesia

Black conservative pundit Candace Owens has been vocal about her disdain for liberals and members of the Black community who claim the GOP has a track record of racial bias. But after arguing in a recent interview that race “was not an issue” for her when she was growing up, social media was quick to point out that she actually filed a racial discrimination case 10 years ago.

Tuesday during an appearance on The Ingraham Angle, the Blexit movement advocate said Barack Obama, and not Donald Trump, is actually responsible for an increasing racial divide.

Owens, 30, believes that Democrats used “awful name-calling rhetoric” as a tactic, in an attempt to lay down the “groundwork for Hillary [Clinton] to run” in the 2016 election and are therefore to blame for where we find ourselves now.

“Obama did a lot to tear the country apart,” she said. “I do not remember, growing up, having all of these race issues. I really don’t remember it.”

The Trump supporter then dismissed police brutality as nothing more than a “myth,” event contending, “Suddenly toward the end of Obama’s [term], we started hearing all of this rhetoric drummed up — it became white versus black all over again. I shouldn’t even say ‘all over again,’ because when I was alive, this was not an issue. It all became about race.”

Despite her claims that race was never an issue in her life prior to Obama, Medhi Hasan, a columnist from The Intercept was quick to point out that her assertion was a factual lie.

To Hasan’s point, in 2008, a then-18-year-old Owens filed a lawsuit accusing the Stamford, Conn., Board of Education of not protecting her from racially charged harassment by white classmates. In fact, back then Owens also alleged that a student threatened to kill her and called her a racial slur.

Ironically, the NAACP, the same group that Owens now calls “one of the worst groups for Black people,” specifically came to her defense and helped her secure a $37,500 settlement in the case.

“I wonder how much money Candace Owens got for the sale of her soul,” writer Toure tweeted in response to the selective amnesia the political provocateur appears to be suffering from.

Owens has not responded to that remark yet.
