Even Trump’s most ardent supporters have turned against him for his remarks on the tragedy in Charlottesville.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Fox personality Bill O’Reilly, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich have all been nothing if not supportive of the current president, but it seems even they have a breaking point, and it’s Trump’s statement seeming to give more equivalency to neo-Nazis and those who protest against them.
“The statement is just wrong,” Christie said of Trump’s comments. “There are not good people on the neo-Nazi side. There is not a moral equivalence between those who oppose neo-Nazism, those who oppose white supremacy, those who oppose fascism, and those who engage in it and support it. There’s not a moral equivalency there.”
However, Christie insisted that Trump “is not a racist” and that the comments were “a mistake.”

As for O’Reilly, he said that Trump came across as “insensitive” because of his remarks.
“(To) hear and see Americans embrace Nazi hatred, even though their numbers are small, is catastrophic to people who understand Hitler’s evil,” O’Reilly wrote. “President Trump did not understand that and it has hurt him…Mr. Trump saw violence by some counter-protesters and pointed it out. But when a young woman is killed by an alleged Nazi sympathizer, that point must wait to be made.”
Gingrich, on the other hand, didn’t criticize the content of Trump’s speech but rather lamented the fact that he has created a crisis for his own administration to deal with by his own words.
“He’s got to quit stepping on himself,” Gingrich said on Fox News’ Fox & Friends. “He had a very good infrastructure press conference the other day, and then he stepped on it, blew it, guaranteed that it wouldn’t get covered…He’s got to make a couple of midcourse corrections.”
