On Thursday, authorities charged a New Jersey grandmother with being high on marijuana during the September 2016 crash that killed two of her grandchildren.
According to The Morning Call of Allentown, authorities who responded to the crash apparently found several shattered bottles of alcohol nearby as well as a marijuana grinder and 49 Oxycodone pills in Nadine Walton‘s purse.
Walton, 53, also tested positive for marijuana after a blood test was performed.
According to a GoFundMe page, Walton was driving with her family on the way back from a funeral in South Carolina when she lost control of the car near Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Police said that after Walton veered off the road, she swerved to get back onto the interstate and hit a guard rail. Five-year-old Ravon Robinson was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Stefany Stephens, and his sister, 2-year-old Brielle Robinson, were both taken to the ICU for their injuries, but Brielle died a few days later.
Walton herself was also hospitalized with “severe injuries.”
Walton now faces a slew of charges, including homicide by vehicle while under the influence of drugs, involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault by vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
