Popular Nigerian singer Ali Zainab Nielson, better known to fans as Alizee, was found murdered along with her 4-year-old daughter at their home in Lagos on Thursday, April 5, Naij.com reported.
Authorities believe Nielson’s husband, Danish billionaire Peter Nielson, is behind the killings. The singer and her child were reportedly found unconscious in their Banana Island home in the capital city. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti confirmed Nielson’s husband was arrested as police continue investigating the murders.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, has ordered the arrest of the suspect and he is in police custody,” Oti said in a statement. “It’s pre-emptive now to ascertain the cause of the incident. The CP has dispatched crime scene investigators to the place to pick evidences for analysis which can be used for prosecution. The command has also written to the Embassy of the suspect that the police are investigating the case.”
Alizee landed a two-year record deal with Asian record label Petra Entertainment in 2017. According to Pulse Nigeria, the rising songstress was scheduled to perform at a number of events before her life was tragically cut short.
Alizee’s management confirmed news of her passing in a statement Friday morning.
“It’s really a shocking and sad development,” they wrote. “We all woke up to the sad news of her death this morning and to find out that the homicide was committed by her husband makes it all the more sad. The Police has been brought in to the case and we’ll share more details as we get them.”
The details of what led to Nielson and her daughter’s deaths remain a mystery, but sources say their bodies have since been deposited at a mortuary as police continue working on the case.
