STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Red, Black, and Green Ball returns for its 6th year, honoring two women who have dedicated their lives to making Staten Island a better place.
On March 28 at 8 p.m. the Staten Island Black Heritage will sponsor the highly anticipated event at the Crystal Room, located at 67 Olympia Blvd.
The Red, Black, and Green Ball pays homage to the Pan-African Flag, symbolizing Black Pride and liberation. Created in the 1920s by Marcus Garvy, founder of the United Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), the flag was meant to serve as a marker of freedom, pride, and the political power of Black Americans.
The flag’s colors — red, black, and green — each hold deep meaning: Red represents the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry and was shed for liberation; black honors Black people’s existence; and green signifies the natural wealth of Africa.

This year’s event will honor two community leaders, Marjorie Garvin and Ilean Dixon, who have significantly contributed to the Staten Island community.
Garvin, honored as a NY1, “New Yorker of the Week,” and unofficial “Mayor of Parkhill,” is a civil rights advocate, community leader, and 2013 Staten Island Advance Woman of Achievement.
Dixon, an entrepreneur, former owner, and operator of the Meeting Place, a well-known Black establishment in New Brighton for many years, and a Staten Island Advance Woman of Achievement in 2017, is known as a helping hand to all those in need.
Both honorees were selected for their integrity, excellence, and dedication to helping others.
The event’s proceeds will support the 14th Annual Staten Island Black Heritage Family Day, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, ensuring continued efforts to uplift and celebrate the Black community on Staten Island.
Tickets for the Red, Black, and Green Ball are available for $125 each. The price includes a cocktail hour, open bar, and a formal dinner.
Tickets for children 12 and under start at $69.
DJ Tyson will provide the evening’s music, creating a lively atmosphere for all attendees.
