State of the Union: Rep. Demings will be joined by Orlando Commissioner and Health Care Expert Bakari Burns

ORLANDO, FL – Today Rep. Val Demings (FL-10), announced that she will be bringing Orlando Commissioner Bakari Burns as her guest to the State of the Union on February 4th.

Said Rep. Demings, “I’m excited to spend the day with Commissioner Burns and learn from his vast experience in the field of health care. I believe that every American, no matter their means or background, deserves access to health care. Commissioner Burns, as the CEO of a community health center serving thousands of homeless people in Central Florida, has deep wisdom in this field.

“I and my fellow Democrats in Congress have worked over the past several years to pass numerous bills addressing the outrageously high cost of health care and prescription drugs for our constituents. I look forward to sharing Commissioner Burns’ firsthand expertise with my colleagues as we work to reduce the cost of health care for our constituents.”

Said Commissioner Burns, “I am honored to have been invited to attend the State of the Union as the guest of my Congresswoman Val Demings. For the past 16 years as the President and CEO of the Health Care Center for the Homeless, my team and I have been on the front lines of ensuring that all community residents have access to quality, affordable health services. I hope to hear the President address quality of life issues such as health care access, affordable housing, ending the HIV Epidemic and homelessness.”
