What Is A Black Newspaper?
A black newspaper is a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly publication that features news and content for and about African Americans. The argument is that many mainstream newspapers do not cover issues relevant to Blacks, so the community created their own press.
How Many Black Newspapers Are There, and Where Can I Get A Copy?
There are currently about 200 different black newspapers in about 150 different cities across the United States. Many cities, such as Los Angeles and New York, have more than one paper. Copies can be obtained by subscription or through newspaper vending machines – just like any other newspaper.

What Are Some Black Newspaper Organizations?
Black newspaper organizations include Black College wire – a news service established promote the journalistic work of students at predominantly black colleges and universities; Black Press USA – a joint web presence of America’s Black community newspapers and the NNPA News Service; Ethnic Print Media Group – a full-service print placement firm representing the most influential Black (and other minority) newspapers; and the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA)a 60 year-old trade association of more than 200 Black community newspapers from across the nation.
